Customizable Electric Skateboards

2013-2016

Slithr Electric Vehicles has patent pending technology that provides urban commuters with customizable lightweight electric vehicles. By using a longboard as our mode of transportation, we are able to develop a vehicle that is lightweight, portable, yet powerful enough to replace inefficient modes of transportation. What makes Slithr Electric Vehicles unique is our adaptable base unit and our variety of user interface controller options. Our base unit can be attached to any longboard deck allowing the user to customize their electric vehicle to match their height, riding ability, and style. To control the speed and acceleration of their Slithr electric vehicle, users have the option of using a wireless hardware controller, an app on their smartphone, or the Myo Armband.

For my electric vehicles startup, Slithr Electric Vehicles, our team is a part of the Moxie Center Incubator at UC San Diego. We are currently applying for hardware incubators and accelerators including Highway1, Bolt, Y Combinator, and EvoNexus. We are currently competing in many business challenges in the area in order to gain soft money to further our prototype for our Kickstarter Campaign.

Aside from our first product, we are researching and developing 4-phase brushless motors and motor controllers, and alternative chemistry batteries. We have researched a 96% electrical to mechanical power transfer efficiency which will drastically reduce the size of brushless motors. Additionally, with the decrease in cost for electrical components, 4- Phase brushless motor controllers are economically advantageous while offering a longer battery life. For our first product we are running off of Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries. In the future, we would like to offer batteries with alternative chemistries such as Magnesium and Fluoride that have a higher energy density than lithium. We are currently trying to reach out to Pellion Technologies, a magnesium battery manufacturer startup, and licensing out the technology from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, researching flouride ion batteries that increase the battery's storage capacity.

Here are some renderings of the Delta prototype, our 4th prototype which would be the one ready for Kickstarter campaign. Our module has 4-phase drive hub motors to give the sleek organic look of a regular longboard. We have a wall mount accessory for at home charging. We offer a 1-hour charger to quickly charge your electric longboard. We are also working on a laptop adapter, so one could use their laptop charger with our adapter to charge their electric longboard.

Here is our promotional video showing our first prototype in action. This was shot in beautiful Santa Cruz, California.
