DJO builds a prophylaxis device to alleviate and prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) from occurring in sedentary patients. We were tasked with redesigned the Aircast VenaFlow Elite system to reduce the BOM cost by simplifying the design and assembly. The system consist of two parts, pump and cuff system, that are commercialized using a razor and razor blade model. I redesigned the cuff system and pump system by reducing the amount of material used, combining multiple parts into one, reducing the number of steps required to manufacture the parts, sourcing the raw material from cheaper vendors, location, and tariff, and reducing the number of parts required for the larger assembly.
